With the refreshment of the new X470 motherboard to complete the release of the Ryzen 2000 series processors, motherboard vendors have the opportunity to refine their previous X370 models. ASRock has released the new flagship AM4 flagship board without all game marketing and sensation, this time focusing on enthusiastic adjustments. The X470 Taichi Ultimate sits at the top of the ASRock AMT motherboard stack because it aims to repair the existing Taichi X370 with features like 10-gigabit networks.
ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate Motherboard Overview
The Ultimate Taichi is a reliable AM4 ATX motherboard from ASRock which has a clear focus on performance. Some of these indications include the addition of the Aquantia AQC107 10Gb / s 10GBase-T network port, and the large and redundant sixteen phase power delivery that is controlled by the powerful Infineon IR35201 International Rectifier PWM controller. Also displayed is the Realtek ALC1220 audio codec with the audio part of the PCB which is equipped with a Nichicon Gold audio capacitor array behind a plastic cover to enhance the aesthetic that has been bold.
With a price tag of $ 300, much is expected from ASRock. This price puts the X470 Taichi Ultimate as one of the most expensive AM4 motherboards currently released. What ASRock does with Taichi Ultimate is to provide a unique styling PCB that resembles a mechanical wheel; even the chipset heatsink has this styling. Among these are the polychrome RGB lighting areas that ASRock considers to be a great feature in their weaponry with certifications that provide compatibility with various other RGB-capable devices on the market such as cooling products and even chassis.
When sitting on the ASRock X470 stack, the Taichi Ultimate does not include a single HDMI 1.4b output for users who want to use one of the new 2000 APU Ryzen series, (although pairing APU $ 99 with a board that costs three times the majority of luxury users won't be able to justify ) ASRock has removed all USB 2.0 ports on the back panel, instead choosing to host six USB 3.0 Type-A ports and two USB 3.1 ports (1 x Type-A and 1 x Type-C)
Apart from USB real estate, the remaining remaining rear panel consists of a set of six 3.5 mm audio jacks from onboard Realtek ALC 1220 codecs, an Intel I211-AT Gigabit Ethernet, Aquantia AQC107 10GbE LAN port, and an Intel-based Wi-Fi module. 802.11ac Fi.
The jump from X370 to X470 brings one major highlight in terms of enhancement and that is memory compatibility. ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate has a total of four DRAM slots with support for up to DDR4-3466 + while having the ability to accommodate a maximum of 64GB in total. The X470 Taichi Ultimate can easily appeal to users who want to build a unique Ryzen-based workstation because the board has eight SATA 6Gbps in total, with six directly supported from the X470 chipset and the other two arranged by the ASMedia ASM1061 SATA controller. As many as two M.2 slots come with the main slot (top slot with heat sink) into PCIe 3.0 x4 and the secondary slot divides (bottom) sharing bandwidth with a full-length PCIe 2.0 x4 slot consequently deactivates the slot if the .2 drive is filled.
From a performance perspective, ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate steams through our test circuit quite comfortably and very well throughout; the strongest display in our system suite is POSTing. Game performance is slightly lower compared to X370 to several percent, but in line with other X470 tests. Power consumption places this as one of the AM4 socket boards that are more power hungry for testing, even though video audio and data conversion testing provides a better picture with the X470 Taichi Ultimate achieving the best frame rate in Handbrake in the HQ settings to date. from whatever AM4 board we have tested. Unlike other ASRock B350 / X370 / X470 models in testing, the DPC latency numbers proved rather bad for the Taichi Ultimate with rather simple results compared to pedigree boards. Although the DPC latency is not optimized, ASRock is usually a consistent player, unfortunately Taichi Ultimate is not in line in this regard.
For overclocking, our Ryzen 7 1700 chips hit 4.0 GHz which we saw on other AM4 motherboards, but the sweet spot is at 3.9 GHz based on increased voltage.
All-in-all, ASRock X470 Taichi Ultimate motherboards do indeed include a choice of highly selected premium components with 10G LAN ports, 16-phase excessive power delivery and a large number of rear panel connectors to satisfy most users. High-end fans will appreciate this premium feature along with the onboard OC style section in the lower right corner which consists of a reset button, power button and a second CMOS clear button, including an LED POST indicator which can be very useful in solving potential boot problems. ASRock's consensus has been exhausted to the maximum extent possible with boards listed at $ 300 but also retains additional controllers such as the premium Realtek ALC 1220 audio codec and the I211-AT Gigabit LAN LAN port to complement those sought after Aquantia 10G LAN Ports; all consequential has a price tag of $ 300.
