Specification
802.11n dual band, 4x10 / 100 / 1000Mbit / s Ethernet port
Not infrequently we see a very interesting router to be seen as a specification, but Netgear R7000 Nighthawk is one such device. As the name implies, the R7000 Nighthawk gets styling inspiration from the F-117 Nighthawk stealth aircraft, even down to the antenna shape on the back. Usually we prefer our routers, especially the expensive, cautious and not stand out in our living room. It may have something to do with our inner teenagers who are struggling to get out, but we feel different from Nighthawk R7000. This is a kind of design that can look easy to look tacky, but it's not, and the plastic feels high quality when touched.
In contrast to the sub-sonic F-117 Nighthawk, the promising R7000 will be very surprising, as it uses the 802.11ac standard. This means the R7000 can provide a theoretical speed of up to 1,300Mbit / s, but you need an 802.11ac enabled Wi-Fi adapter or mobile device to benefit from higher 802.11ac speeds. Even so, you will not see a speed approaching 1,300Mbit / s.
Do not worry if you do not have 802.11ac devices, because the R700 is compatible with older standards, such as 802.11n. The R7000 is dual-band, and will work on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands simultaneously. This means you will have no trouble connecting wirelessly to your R7000 whether you're using a new smartphone or tablet.
The R7000 also does not neglect cable connections, and there are four Gigabit Ethernet ports where you can connect PCs, smart TVs or other equipment that utilize ultra-fast cable networks. There are also two USB ports where you can connect USB drives and printers so you can share them with people on your network. The front USB port is a USB3 port, and although we are happy to have a USB3 port, we prefer a faster USB3 port to be placed on the back. That way we can install USB drive permanently without damaging the front panel display R7000.
PREPARE
R7000 is very easy to set up, as you want and expect from a high priced router. The R7000's web interface is well organized, well structured and not cluttered. The web interface consists of two tabs, Basic and Advanced, and each category has a set of categories on the left side that lets you access the Setup Wizard and USB storage options among many others.
Might be easier for many of us in the modern era, you can download the Netgear Genie app for your iOS or Android device and configure the R7000 on your smartphone or tablet from the comfort of your couch. We tested the iOS version of the Genie Netgear app, and found it easy and easy to use. You can change the SSID and password of your wireless network, view your network map and create a guest network, among many other options. The Netgear Genie app is free, so it needs to be downloaded if you decide to buy R7000.
