This weekend, Steam offers players a free download of Cobalt WASD, a fast-paced platformer with multiplayer features, published by Mojang of Minecraft fame.
Players who have not checked the Mojang Cobalt WASD space platformer can download it for free on Steam until this weekend.
Developed by Oxeye Game Studio, the title usually sells for $ 6.99 and features an asymmetrical single-player and 4v4 multiplayer modes.
Players choose one of two killer robot teams - Metalfaces or Protobots - and fight in tightly staged 2-D maps. One side rushes to plant bombs at the enemy base while others defend the attack, trying to defuse the explosives that sneak through the cracks.
Each round produces this team of "volts," which can be used to purchase weapons, equipment, and lavish armor. With this equipment, players open up new ways to jump, run, grapple, and teleport through stages, their movements calibrated specifically to be played with the keyboard and mouse - thus, "WASD" in Cobalt WASD. This platforming element makes every campaign a race with a fever, as defeating the opponent's maneuvers becomes as important as defeating him.
Cobalt WASD was released in November for most positive reviews. It currently has 10 maps, which are reportedly more under construction. It also strongly advertises itself as a "fair game" that prohibits crates looting, exclusive editions, or pay-to-win gameplay models.
